Happy Kiwi Quilt Studio is a modern quilt pattern studio built around one long project: to design and publish 100 original quilt patterns, one quilt at a time. New patterns are released monthly as part of the 100 Quilt Project, an ongoing body of work focused on bold design, thoughtful construction, and quilts made for real life.
The studio focuses on bold, geometric quilts with a modern, structured feel, but the finished quilt is only part of the story. Every pattern is also a construction problem to solve: how blocks fit together, how seams behave, how a quilt can look intricate without becoming frustrating to sew, and how to turn a strong visual idea into a pattern that feels clear, usable, and satisfying to make.
That design-first approach carries through to the patterns themselves. Each pattern includes detailed fabric requirements, cutting instructions, full-color diagrams, unit and block counts, and a coloring page for planning your own version. Most patterns include multiple sizes, and every design is sewn as a real quilt before the pattern is written, so the process has already been tested at the machine, not just sketched out on paper.
Happy Kiwi Quilt Studio is run by quilt designer Jo Morrison, who designs, pieces, quilts, and writes every pattern in the collection. She has been quilting for nearly twenty years and is a self-professed seam nerd, with a particular fondness for seam nesting, clean construction, and breaking a complicated-looking quilt into steps that actually make sense at the sewing machine.
The result is a growing collection of modern quilt patterns that care just as much about how a quilt is made as how it looks when it’s finished.
